The only real thing to fear would be what A Brave New World really had, which was an Orwellian society. How A Brave New World controlled the mind wasn’t through trivial pleasures and distractions, it was through making learning and free-thought out side of societal norms, and thus looked down upon. Where the government in 1984 would come down on you if you acted differently, it was society, your friends, work, family, who would come down on you in A Brave New World. That’s how I see it. The trivial pleasures were merely distractions from that fact.
I think all these connections of A Brave New Worlds synthetic pleasures and modern technology and culture are fucking pretentious bullshit. There are certain television shows, certain outlooks and mindsets that are purported through modern culture that are certainly idiotic or close-minded and hateful, but it’s shit like this that is just as hateful and idiotic. Someone is not less free-thinking then you because they spend lots of time on the internet or watch certain television shows or play video games. Life is more than that. Stop thinking this way and you’re life may somehow be enriched beyond your cynical, self-important bullshit.
